My Bio

Who I am

I was born in Poznan, Poland.  As a small child, I loved to draw.  Drawing allowed me to escape into my internal world of fantasy.  Everything there was possible, and I was free to play out whatever entered my imagination.  I knew there and then that art would play a large part in my life.

At the age of 12, my family and I took a summer trip to Italy.  Somewhere along an open road in Hungary, my parents turned to the back seat where my brother and I were sitting and said that we were not coming back.  This pivotal moment was a painful shock.  My childhood, rooted in the comfort of the community in which I was raised, was ripped out.  From this moment on, I would live within any culture somewhat vicariously, as its acute observer.  As an ‘other’.  A stranger.  An immigrant.

We lived in Italy for two years, during which we secured our legal status as refugees seeking asylum from communism.  After that, we moved to Chicago, IL.  The next several years, we relocated frequently throughout Chicago’s suburbs.  Elmwood Park, Palatine, and finally, my parents were able to buy a house in Lake Zurich, IL.  The constant move made comfortable grounding difficult, but it heightened the desire to escape into all that is creative.

In high school, I thrived in art classes.  By the senior year, I planned to enter one of the prestigious Chicago art schools.  However, the expense of these institutions derailed my plans, leading me to Harper Community College instead.  There, I fell in love with Psychology, declaring it as my major by the second semester.  Additionally, at Harper College, I began taking classical piano lessons, completing the two-year program.

I transferred to Western Illinois University, where I graduated with a major in psychology and a minor in Art with Cum Laude.  I stayed there for two more years and completed my M.S. in experimental psychology.  At that moment in my life, I was set on pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.  Once again, however, life had other plans for me.  Despite my scholastic success, my doctoral options were limited.

Over the next ten years, I felt lost.  I lack any real drive or purpose.  Fortunately, my passion for music was revived with the advent of the plug-in revolution.  At this point, many synthesizer instruments and recording gear I had dreamed of were now all available within a computer.  Hence, I began to compose music.  What started as a creative escape evolved into a full band, with Corenlius Boon, Kevin Jrumz, and eventually Katie Sommers joining the group.

At some point, Perpetual Process needed a music video.  We found a director who was willing to help with the project, but he did not have the capacity to complete the video.  Hence, the responsibility of editing the footage fell on me.  I spent several months learning the editing tools, and after the video was complete, I was in love with the process.  I asked myself, what if I bought a small camera?  Maybe I could figure out how to produce more videos on my own.  Years later, I built an entire production company, Niche Visuals, and I have written, produced, and directed many short films and music videos, in addition to establishing a production company for commercial video work.
